The Rise of Agentic AI: What Product Managers Can Expect in 2025

Preparing Product Managers for Agentic AI in 2025

In partnership with

Hey there, product people! 👋

Welcome back to Rashdan's Huddle! If you're new here, we dive into the real-world challenges of product management, the evolving role of AI, and how to leverage technology to build better products and teams.

Today, we’re diving into something that’s already reshaping how we work- Agentic AI. As product managers, we’re all about efficiency, making data-driven decisions, and staying ahead of the curve. But what happens when AI starts making those decisions for us? In this edition, I’ll walk you through:

  • What Agentic AI is and how it differs from traditional AI tools

  • How it will change decision-making and product development in 2025

  • How to prepare for the rise of AI-driven decision-making

Let’s dive in and get ready for the future!

Agentic AI: The Future of Product Management in 2025

What is Agentic AI?

At its core, Agentic AI is a type of AI that doesn't just analyze data, it also makes autonomous decisions and takes actions on its own. Unlike traditional AI tools that assist in analysis, Agentic AI can act with minimal human input, making it an ideal companion for tasks like decision-making, optimizing processes, and automating repetitive tasks.

In product management, this means we’ll soon have AI systems that can autonomously suggest features, prioritize backlogs, and even run experiments without waiting for our approval.

The Impact of Agentic AI on Product Development

The implications of Agentic AI for product development are nothing short of profound. Here's how I see it playing out:

Faster Decision Making: With Agentic AI, product managers will no longer be bottlenecked by lengthy meetings or slow decision-making cycles. AI will sift through data, spot trends, and make real-time recommendations, allowing us to move faster than ever before.

Automated Testing and Iteration: Think about how much time we spend testing and iterating on features. With Agentic AI, we could have systems running hundreds of variations of a feature simultaneously and adjusting them based on user feedback. It could take weeks of work off our plate.

Predictive Product Development: Instead of guessing what features will work, Agentic AI will be able to predict what will resonate with users by analyzing massive amounts of historical data. It could recommend which features to build first based on real-time trends.

Changing Role of Product Managers in 2025

As product managers, we are, at our core, problem solvers. But in 2025, we’ll need to become AI collaborators as well. The role of product managers will evolve to focus less on micro-managing the development process and more on managing AI-driven systems and ensuring those systems align with business goals. We’ll need new skills:

  • AI Literacy: Understanding how Agentic AI works will become just as important as understanding your user base.

  • Collaboration with AI Systems: Instead of seeing AI as a tool, we’ll need to think of it as a team member. Product managers will guide AI, refining its decisions and interventions as we learn from the results.

  • Human-AI Synergy: The best product managers in 2025 will blend their own expertise with the decision-making capabilities of AI, ensuring that human intuition and AI precision complement each other.

Agentic AI in Decision Making and Prioritization

One of the most exciting applications of Agentic AI will be in decision-making and prioritization. With its ability to analyze vast amounts of data and predict user behavior, AI will help us prioritize features based on user needs, business objectives, and potential revenue impact.

Instead of relying solely on stakeholder input or gut feelings, we’ll be able to use data-driven insights to decide which features to build first. AI systems will continuously monitor user interactions, feeding that data back into the system, ensuring our priorities stay aligned with what users truly want.

Ethical Considerations in Using Agentic AI

Of course, with great power comes great responsibility. The rise of Agentic AI brings with it ethical considerations we can’t ignore. As product managers, we’ll need to ensure that AI systems are not only effective but also ethical and aligned with our company values.

  • Bias in AI: AI algorithms are only as good as the data they’re trained on. If we’re not careful, we risk building biased products that perpetuate harmful stereotypes or exclude certain groups of users.

  • Transparency: We’ll need to be transparent about how AI is making decisions, particularly when it impacts customers directly. How can we explain AI-driven decisions to our users? What happens if an AI makes a mistake?

The key here will be balancing innovation with responsibility, ensuring that we don’t lose sight of the human element in the drive for efficiency.

Challenges Product Managers Will Face

With the promise of Agentic AI comes inevitable challenges. Here are a few that come to mind:

  • AI Learning Curve: Not all product managers are AI experts. To leverage Agentic AI, we'll need to be proactive in upskilling ourselves and our teams to understand how these systems work.

  • Data Privacy and Security: As AI takes on more autonomous functions, the amount of sensitive data it will handle will grow exponentially. We must ensure that data privacy and security standards evolve alongside these technologies.

  • Resistance to Change: There will be pushback, as some team members may feel that AI undermines their roles. Managing this cultural shift will be as important as managing the technology itself.

Real-World Examples of Agentic AI in Action

While we’re still in the early stages, there are already companies exploring the potential of Agentic AI in product management. For example, Spotify uses AI to not only recommend music but to adjust playlists in real time based on listener feedback.

Another example is Netflix, where AI continuously optimizes the user interface and content recommendations based on real-time data. These companies are already ahead of the curve, and in 2025, we'll likely see more product managers integrating Agentic AI into their workflows.

Preparing for 2025: Steps Product Managers Can Take Today

So, what can we do right now to prepare for the rise of Agentic AI in 2025?

  • Educate Yourself on AI: Start by learning about the different types of AI and how they work. There are plenty of free resources available, from online courses to articles.

  • Start Experimenting with AI Tools: If you’re not already using AI tools in your workflow, now’s the time to start. From AI-driven analytics to prioritization tools, there are plenty of platforms that can give you a taste of what’s coming.

  • Create a Roadmap for AI Integration: Start thinking about how you can integrate AI into your product development processes. Which tasks could be automated? Which decisions could AI help with?

As we move toward 2025, Agentic AI will redefine how product managers approach decision-making, prioritization, and development. To stay ahead, we must embrace this shift, adapt to new workflows, and ensure AI aligns with both our goals and values. The rise of Agentic AI is inevitable, but how we use it will make all the difference.

Until next time, keep building awesome products.
